Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 1, 2026
We built FreshFridgeFriend to help you waste less food — not to hoover up your personal data. This page explains, in plain English, what we collect, what we don't, and what happens to it.
The short version
- You can use the app without an account. Nothing leaves your device until you sign up.
- We collect the minimum needed to make the app work: your email, your name/username, and the food items you add.
- We don't sell your data. We don't run ad networks on you.
- You can export or delete your data any time from Settings.
What we collect
- Account info: email address (for sign-in via OTP or OAuth) and the name/username you choose during onboarding.
- Your food data: items, storage locations, prices, expiration dates, recipes, and notes you enter or capture via receipt/photo.
- Photos you take in the app: processed to extract items and then discarded unless you save them intentionally.
- Household info: if you invite others to a shared household, we store membership and invite codes so sharing works.
- Billing (paid plans only): handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- Basic technical logs: error reports and request logs to keep the service healthy. No third-party ad trackers.
What we do NOT collect
- We don't sell or rent your personal data. Ever.
- We don't track you across other websites for advertising.
- We don't collect your contacts, location history, or device sensors beyond the camera you explicitly open.
- We don't upload photos from your library on our own — only what you capture in the app.
How we use your data
- To run the app: store your inventory, send expiration reminders, generate recipes, and share with your household.
- To improve the app: fix bugs and understand which features actually help.
- To communicate: transactional emails (sign-in codes, expiration reminders you opted into, receipts for paid plans).
Who we share it with
Only the service providers we need to run FFF:
- Lovable Cloud — hosting, database, and authentication.
- AI providers — for parsing receipts, identifying items, and generating recipes. Content is sent for processing and not used to train third-party models.
- Stripe — payments (only if you subscribe).
- Google Maps — to show nearby food pantries when you open that page.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- See and edit your data in the app.
- Export your data from Settings.
- Delete your account and all associated data from Settings. Backups are purged within 30 days.
If you're in the EU/UK, you also have rights under GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, portability, objection). If you're in California, you have similar rights under CCPA. Contact us via the Feedback button to exercise them.
Data retention
We keep your data as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your data from live systems immediately and from backups within 30 days.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. Access is protected by row-level security so only you (and household members you invite) can see your items. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously.
Children
FFF isn't intended for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes we'll let you know in the app or by email before they take effect.
